Depression medicine
Helpful in depression cases is considered Wellbutrin (a dopamine agonist) or a non-sedating Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitor (SSRI, like Prozac, Zoloft, Celexa, Effexor). When there are sleep problems as well, drugs as Paxil, Serzone, Desyrel, and the tri-cyclic antidepressants (TCAs) like doxepin and amitriptyline are prescribed. When there is a significant sleep problem plus weight loss, the choice can be Remeron.
Tricyclic agents may be used for CFS patients to improve sleep and to relieve mild, generalized pain. Examples include doxepin (Adapin, Sinequan), amitriptyline (Elavil, Etrafon, Limbitrol, Triavil), desipramine (Norpramin), and nortriptyline (Pamelor). Effective dosages are often much lower when used ad antidepressants.
